Adventure Weekend

Wednesday, April 7th, 2010

It’s been busy. But, here’s a short recap of my weekend.

I had my super duper awesome 9-year old nephew over this weekend.

We colored eggs.

Then, my nephew and I spent some time trying to convince Humpty Dumpty not to jump.

We went to the park and watched kites flying behind us as we played with paratrooper action figures. It got pretty windy and mine got stuck in the tree!

The best part of my super adventure weekend with the nephew is…the silent drive back to his house with his nose buried in a book. Road to success to get him to read more!

The Big Climb

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

Sunday, March 21, 2010 marks the day when I walked up 1,311 steps with Tammy and 6,000 other people!! The energy and adrenaline was infectious!

It was at the Columbia Tower to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Kids as young as 5 years old, the deaf, blind, asthmatic, a woman suffering from pneumonia, etc challenged themselves to climb 69 floors. Hamburger climbed, too!

We climbed in style, 80′s style :) and made sure to do a super stretch before.

It wasn’t easy but it wasn’t impossible. We finished in less than 30 minutes! The best part was the jump down ;)

My goal was a measly $123.45. Yip Yip Horay, I raised $378.13. BIG THANKS to those who donated!!!!

It was such an incredible event to take part in! I think it’s important to leave a mark in this world. Don’t you think?

May in Wonderland

Monday, March 15th, 2010

I saw Alice in Wonderland this past weekend with Suzie, Tammy, and my 9-year old nephew . I loved the fanciful world of Wonderland, especially on a huge 3D screen. It certainly met my expectations!

So, I must have inadvertently drank a lot of “Drink Me” potion because I’ve grown curiously big!

Dinosaur Fights

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

I was having a frightening adventure…

in a land before time until Hamburger came to the rescue.

He fought a lot of dinosaurs and won!

Thankfully, I am safely back at home on my way to Sleepy Land.

Good night and sweet dreams.

Garden Gnome Visits Seattle

Sunday, February 7th, 2010

Yesterday, my new friend Garden Gnome led the way to a nice walkabout in the city.

Gotta stop for a photo op!

Can you believe they keep books there? Neither can I.

Lusty Lady

We ended up at the doorstep of a show that I did not want to see! Gotta keep walking!

Oh what a pretty view of the city!

Goodbye sun, maybe we’ll see you tomorrow…

Goodbye Garden Gnome, until next time.

It’s Snow Time!

Saturday, December 5th, 2009

It was so great watching kids and grown-ups take a break from their holiday shopping to play in the ‘snow’ last weekend.

This week, after a long day at work, I was really wishing for snow. Then it started to…

Playing in the snow was such a great way to relax and Winnie the Pooh thought so too!

9 Fun Ideas When It Rains

Sunday, November 22nd, 2009

Between my work computer, my laptop, my phone, and the tv–I work and play with technology, constantly. Here are ways to mix things up.

  1. Play taste testing. Blind fold some friends and have them guess what is what. Pre-mix things, like: coffee + ketchup + lime, soy sauce + basil + mayo, or whatever you have in the kitchen. Reward good guesses with more items and antacid.
  2. Become ambidextrous. For what? Well, you can for example, write prank letters to your friends or family without worry that they will recognize your penmanship
  3. Write a surprise thank you note. Give thanks, props, credit, etc to those who have done you right in the past. Notice how good it feels to give thanks. This is also good to do on any weather.
  4. Do some rain cleaning. Gather all the clothes you haven’t worn in 9 months. If you must try them on and play dress up. Then, let go. Next step, donate! (There may be a donation drop box near you or you can go your nearest Goodwill.)
  5. Write your life story. And make a home-made book out of it, with illustrations!
  6. Mock the TV. Write a short monologue or make up a story and act it out. I did this once for drama class in middle school in front of my class with a video tape to prove it :)
  7. Decorate your ultimate sock puppet. Use old button for the eyes or whatever you have around.
  8. Build a fort. When someone asks you if you want to help build a fort say, “YES!” Remember to dress up and decorate!

Lastly, go out there! Get an umbrella, raincoat/Pancho, and rain boots! Dance, sing, and/or flash people. Whatever you do have fun!

What are the things you enjoy when it’s raining?

Whimsical Fashion Show

Sunday, October 4th, 2009

After one of our weekend adventures–this time walking around downtown Seattle and hopping on the Monorail to the EMP–NJ, my 8 year old nephew and I walked into a mall and discovered, to our surprise a fashion show full of whimsy! It was a show to promote the stores in the mall. My favorites are of the guy minus a shirt plus a skirt and the woman in the purple gown next to the penguin. I think I’ll make a mask of my own!

It’s great being out and about. You never know what you’ll discover.

10 Ways To Be A Kid Again

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

Get away from your daily stress and responsibilities and be a kid again. Who says you have to be a grown up all the time? Go ahead, be silly!

  1. Blow bubbles in your drink, using your straw
  2. Yell, “Whee!” when the car drives off
  3. Play games you use to play as a child (e.g. jacks, hide-and-seek, tag, heads up seven up, patty cake etc.)
  4. Collect bugs or whatever random stuff you used to collect as a kid
  5. Play with your food
  6. Look up at the sky and assign shapes to the clouds
  7. Skip stones
  8. Watch shows that you use to watch as a kid (I’m hesitant to admit but I used to watch Sailor Moon.)
  9. Stick your tongue out at another kid
  10. Skip, frolic, and merrily act uninhibited

8 Harmless Mischief

Sunday, August 30th, 2009

Here are some ideas for harmless mischief:

  1. Cover someone’s car/possessions with post its/foil/saran wrap/etc.
  2. Put a dribble (only a little, unless you know they can handle hot stuff!) of Tabasco in water stir it up really well (they won’t even notice the color)
  3. Leave paper eyes in a trail or any public area.
  4. Have a surprise dinner for some friends but color the food an odd color (e.g. black ice cream, purple pasta, etc.)
  5. Wrap someone’s stuff (or a napping friend’s foot) with bubble wrap.
  6. Write jokes on a small piece of paper and slip it in books at a local bookstore
  7. Leave words of kindness using chalk on someone’s sidewalk
  8. Walk down a busy street and smile at strangers, I’m talking about the full on smile with teeth showing. See how many actually smile back. It’s inevitable that someone will think you’re completely weird but who cares, at least you’re having fun.

I cut out this image of a cougar from a magazine. I decided to hide it all over the house to surprise and scare my roommates. (The thought bubble says “Play with my tongue”. The tongue has texture to it like a real cat.) In it’s first location, the medicine cabinet:

These are just starter ideas. If you have anymore ideas, do share!
