8 Harmless Mischief

Sunday, August 30th, 2009

Here are some ideas for harmless mischief:

  1. Cover someone’s car/possessions with post its/foil/saran wrap/etc.
  2. Put a dribble (only a little, unless you know they can handle hot stuff!) of Tabasco in water stir it up really well (they won’t even notice the color)
  3. Leave paper eyes in a trail or any public area.
  4. Have a surprise dinner for some friends but color the food an odd color (e.g. black ice cream, purple pasta, etc.)
  5. Wrap someone’s stuff (or a napping friend’s foot) with bubble wrap.
  6. Write jokes on a small piece of paper and slip it in books at a local bookstore
  7. Leave words of kindness using chalk on someone’s sidewalk
  8. Walk down a busy street and smile at strangers, I’m talking about the full on smile with teeth showing. See how many actually smile back. It’s inevitable that someone will think you’re completely weird but who cares, at least you’re having fun.

I cut out this image of a cougar from a magazine. I decided to hide it all over the house to surprise and scare my roommates. (The thought bubble says “Play with my tongue”. The tongue has texture to it like a real cat.) In it’s first location, the medicine cabinet:

These are just starter ideas. If you have anymore ideas, do share!

Quotes on Books

Sunday, August 23rd, 2009

After work the other day, I decided to stop by a local bookstore and slip in motivational quotes that I thought would be fitting for each particular book.
My heart was lightly beating as I slyly slipped these notes between the pages. I was paranoid that I’d get caught. But what was the worst that could happen? Bookstore jail? Nah. I hope that whoever comes across the quotes will help them in some way.

Having an Effect

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

The day before I was to graduate from college, I decided to walk around campus and say goodbye to the place I called home for four years. During my stroll around campus, I came across…

….a quote by Roy Batty from the movie Blade Runner:

I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I’ve watched c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those … moments will be lost in time, like tears…in rain.

Followed by: Time to graduate class of 07

This had an effect on me. It certainly made me think and at the same time thankful for such a message.

Today (two years and some months after graduation), I decided to leave a message for the janitorial lady at work. On some days she has her daughter with her while she’s working. She doesn’t seem to have the easiest life.
So, I sticky tacked (easy to remove of course) a fortune cookie message to the women’s bathroom mirror.

It said: You will be rewarded for your efforts within the month. I really hope it comes true!

Making a Face

I can’t take credit for the idea but my friend Regina shared this with me, originally by Color Me Katie. I decided to find things that have mouths and stick on paper eyes and make them live!
This tree looks worried:
And this one is shocked!
This one looks like it’s trying to seduce other pipes with it’s sultry mouth.

:(
This one needs to pipe down:

Holes Holes Everwhere

Wednesday, August 5th, 2009

I’ve gone around town taking pictures and I noticed this pattern emerge, lot’s of holes. I don’t know if it’s just me digging for holes here (pun intended) but there they are. Like this one from the Seattle Public Library’s Downtown Branch:

or this view of the Space Needle from Volunteer Park through the “Black Sun” structure by Isamu Noguchi.
The one below is part of a fire pit at Golden Gardens.
And lastly, which is also my favorite, is of a plastic divider with rope through it. I was able to capture a spider crawling through…

I hope that sparked some ideas!
